Multidisciplinary consulting engineers, MPA Consulting Engineers, have been awarded the tender for the 2010 contingency upgrade of the Lebombo Border Post at Komatipoort for the National Department of Public Works (NDPW) in joint venture with NME Consulting Engineers.
The R55million upgrade comprises new freight processing facilities, road parking and buildings as well as the general upgrade of wet services. The project was initiated by the NDPW in order to facilitate faster and more efficient processing of border crossing and to streamline administration.
The tender was awarded to MPA in November 2009 with construction taking place from January to June 2010. Frikkie van Coppenhagen, Senior Engineer at MPA states, “MPA won the tender based on the company’s proven Traffic Engineering, Road Design and Structural Engineering expertise, we have carried out similar work for both Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) and Gautrans”. MPA will be utilizing the latest technology available for the project including the innovative use of rock materials for road construction.
